Will Criminal Prosecution Finally Bring An End To This Disastrous Brexit Fiasco?

03/11/2019

The Metropolitan Police has provided evidence to the criminal prosecution authorities, which should lead to a criminal charges against Vote Leave, the pro-Brexit campaign led by Boris Johnson and Michael Gove.

Thursday was the date on which Johnson, now the Prime Minister, had promised the UK would definitely leave the EU. However, this did not happen and, instead, the flowing day saw a much awaited update from the Metropolitan Police, who had been criticised for taking almost 16 months to compile a file of evidence to give to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Apparently, they handed details about the case to the CPS last month, and are obtaining legal advice on how to proceed.

How many 'No Brexit Days' will we celebrate?

In 2018 the Electoral Commission found that Vote Leave broke electoral law by overspending during the EU referendum. This was after having handed £675,000 to pro-Brexit group BeLeave, who used it to pay AggregateIQ for Facebook advertising. In doing so Vote Leave sought t avoid the legal spending limits.

"On Thursday, 17 Oct 2019 the MPS submitted a file to the CPS for Early Investigative Advice in relation to the second investigation, which followed a referral by the Electoral Commission on 19 July 2018 and concerns Vote Leave and Be Leave."

It has been suggested that it's unlikely that further information about the case will be provided during the general election campaign due to its politically sensitive nature.

That, for me, is simply wrong.

We are entering into a general election that should not be happening.

The general election is just anther tool being used by the Prime Minister to secure his place in history. The plan is to force Brexit through by obtaining a majority in parliament; something the Conservatives (with help from the DUP) had until they started removing the Tory Whip from Members of Parliament (MPs) who would not support the government's disastrous plans. So, they want to draft in a number of more 'cooperative' MPs into those 'safe' Tory seats now held by MPs who have become Independents or joined the Liberal Democrats.

This means we are heading into a general election that will largely be decided, not on domestic policy, but on a mix of Brexit and people's longstanding political obsession.

On each side of the left / right political spectrum, there are countless people who won't vote Conservative because their granny would turn in her grave, or won't vote Labour because they're communist and anti-entrepreneurial. Many of these people won't vote for the middle ground either; they feel they have to vote the way their forefathers did.

An election at this pivotal time, a time that will be taught to students for decades if not centuries (and not just political students), is totally wrong.

Instead, parliament should be seeking the electorate's consent to proceeding with Johnson's proposed Brexit deal. A confirmatory referendum is the only correct way to proceed.

This would have been the case without the anticipated criminal proceedings against Vote Leave.

Brexiteer politicians all said how easy it would be to get a great deal; in the worst case scenario it would be something along the lines of the relationship between the EU and Norway, Switzerland or Canada. None of them was suggesting a no-deal Brexit. None of them was suggesting a border in the Irish Sea. None of them was suggesting a scenario whereby the United Kingdom would be broken up; with Northern Ireland being set aside, renewed calls for Scottish independence and, well, how will Wales then react?

There should be no doubt that the possibility of electing a Prime Minister who is facing implication in illegal activity in respect of the 2016 referendum campaign would serve to be yet another blow to democracy in the UK.

It is time to stop letting the billionaire media barons dictate how we view life.

They press their own agenda, convincing ordinary 'Joe public' that they are on their side, when all they are doing is brainwashing people into helping them with their aims to boost their personal wealth and power, whilst avoiding the anti tax avoidance legislation being pushed by the EU.

I really do hope that this referral to the CPS is the thing that finally brings me punishment to those who have sought to manipulate the truth (and the electorate) to serve their own nefarious purposes.
