Rashida Tlaib is a Palestinian-American and Ilhan Omar is a Somali refugee. They both received an overwhelming majority of the vote in their respective districts and join a surge of Democratic women coming to the new Congress. They are accompanied by two Native American Indian women who also won seats in the 2018 mid-term elections.
These women's achievements are worthy of celebration and will, hopefully, be repeated many times at future elections.
I am sure that some of the Republican Party will be choking on their holy water to see these women achieve their success. Let's hope that there is more reason for them to choke in the coming years, but obviously not so much that their bottled water cannot help them calm down.
