Following on from the news that Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (AKA Tommy Robinson) had again been found guilty of Contempt of Court last week, it is good to see that he has now been sentenced to a further prison sentence.
Prison is where this extremist belongs.
The xenophobic former leader of the English Defence League continued to claim persecution and suggested that he had been convicted for journalism. However, not only is he not a journalist, even an ugly one, but what he was convicted of was not any form of journalism.
He was, quite rightly, convicted of Contempt of Court. He very clearly did this by his actions outside Leeds Crown Court in May 2018. Moreover, he had been found guilty of the same crime previously, in May 2017, and was given a suspended sentence. He cannot therefore claim to be unaware of the law; just too stupid to actually abide by the law of the land.
Personally, I would have liked to see the maximum sentence handed down. However, this sentence is at least something.
We need to adopt a zero tolerance policy to xenophobia; extremists like Yaxley-Lennon should not be permitted to spread their message of hate and intolerance.
