Next month it's November, which brings with it Armastice Day and Remembrance Sunday. This means our Facebook feeds will, again, be filled with a number of things; some good, some not so good (in fact, some of them disgusting).
Amongst the bad things are the lies spread by the likes of Britain First and the English Defence League, suggesting that poppies are banned from sale in certain areas for fear of offending Muslims. Given how many Muslims fought on the Allies side during WW2 and many Muslims wear poppies each year, this is obviously fabrication meant to cause hate and division.
Another thing to be wary of is the number of people trying to make money out of this for themselves, praying on the goodwill of those who wish to show their support for our troops and their families. There are pages on Facebook selling t-shirts with poppies on them, which are not sanctioned by or affiliated with The Royal British Legion. The RBL own the copyright for the two-leaf Poppy and they sell products from which all the profits go to the RBL and supporting our Armed Forces and their families.
I've already purchased my 2017 enamel Poppy badges, wrist bands and a t-shirt from www.poppyshop.org.uk.
Please support the right people and buy your poppies from RBL's Poppy Shop or from official street vendors; don't give money to those using this time of the year to make profits for themselves.
