There is confidence that Keir is the man who can help Labour recover from the disaster of the 2019 general election. There is little doubt that the two key reasons for Labour's losses are Corbyn himself, and the lack of direction he and others in the party demonstrated on Brexit.
From the social media posts I've seen from Labour supporting friends of mine, it would appear that most sensible Labour voters are in favour of his appointment.
Right now, with the coronavirus pandemic causing so much uncertainty, it is important that he strikes the right balance between holding the government to account and supporting them in the battle to stop the spread of COVID-19 and the ever-increasing loss of life.
It seems, from his early statements, that he is going to do just that.
I wish him luck in his tenure.
I guess it will be some time before we get to see him press BoJo at Prime Minister's Questions on a Wednesday.
