Boris Johnson Must Face The Consequences Of His Disrespect For The Law

20/10/2019

There can be little doubt that passions run high on both sides of the Brexit debate.

The numbers that have taken to the streets to protest in favour of a people's vote have been simply staggering, and they don't come from one political party; they are spread across all the main political parties.

Yesterday, again, an estimated one million people marched in London to call upon MPs to back a vote on the final deal put to parliament.

At the same time, in a rare Saturday sitting of MPs on a Saturday, the House insisted on a delay to the deal proposed by Boris Johnson; with the aim of ensuring that proper due process was followed and a no-deal Brexit was avoided.

Johnson, it seems, has written to the EU asking for an extension as he was legally required to because of the 'Benn Act'. However, he did not sign this letter and sent an additional, signed, letter saying that an extension would be wrong.

His actions show absolute contempt for the rule of law and for his fellow law-makers.

This is a Prime Minister who has, yet again, shown he should not be serving Her Majesty as the head of government, but rather serving time at Her Majesty's pleasure in prison.
