Are We Really Destined To Have BJ As Our Next Prime Minister?

25/06/2019

Is the Tory leadership contest a foregone conclusion; will Boris Johnson (and I'd better stop using BJ as the shortened version, for obvious reasons) succeed Theresa May as the leader of the Conservative party and, therefore, become the new Prime Minister.

I heard some people saying that, because the final decision is "down to the geriatrics who are members of the Conservative Party", there was nothing that could stop Johnson from being victorious.

The last Tory leadership contest (leading to May's appointment as Prime Minister) did not actually reach as far as a vote of Tory Party members.  Her opponents, including Boris, all fell away leaving May to walk into the role unopposed.

The last few Labour Party leadership contests, not just the ones catapulting Jeremy Corbyn into the role of Leader of the Opposition and keeping him in that position against the wishes of his parliamentary colleagues, sprung surprises on the country.

Does anyone remember the battle of the two brothers (David and Ed) and the unexpected outcome?

I am sure that having Johnson in No.10 would be disastrous; given the wider picture of political leadership in the world at the moment and the impending doom of Brexit.

Jeremy Hunt may have his detractors, but compared to Johnson he is a paragon of virtue, a dedicated servant of the people and an honest and trustworthy representative of the United Kingdom.

We should not, for a moment, be considering giving the keys to No. 10 to someone who has blatantly lied to the British people in the way that Johnson has, who has knowingly and deliberately mislead the population with the sale purpose of furthering his personal ambitions.

It is my opinion that the future of our nation is in jeopardy. Far too many people are hell bent on driving aggressively down the cliff road; and right now, it seems some of them are eagerly passing the keys to the nutter who doesn't think it's necessary to watch the road ahead, apply brakes when we look out of control or consider turning around when it becomes obvious that the cliff road has crumbled away and continuing will lead to disaster.

My confidence in the Conservative Party members to make the right decision is not particularly high. I actually think that the last three years have led to a situation where younger Conservative party members have cancelled their memberships, leaving the older members with the ability to drive the outcome; ignoring the impact upon the youth and the future generations.

I am seriously concerned about the devastating impact of Brexit on the UK and our citizens.

I really hope, for everyone's sake, that we can avoid the catastrophic nightmare that Brexit, especially a 'no deal' exit from the EU, would bring.

Things are looking rather perilous at the moment.
